Several years ago, while we lived in Seattle, we took a weekend trip up to Victoria, BC and had High Tea at the Empress Hotel. We had to dress up for this (Gene had brought along his blue blazer and nice slacks and I must have had a dress with me - imagine that). Anyway, we had these wonderful scones with our tea and sandwiches and asked for the recipe. Well, believe or not, they gave it to us and I have schlepped it around for years. So today, I made the scones for breakfast with dried cranberries in them. We have company from Minnesota and they brought us 2 dozen eggs from their free-range Barred Rocks chickens...talk about gorgeous eggs... yummy yellow color and brown shells - used them (not the shells) in the scones and also made scrambled eggs with them. What a treat!! Some people get bottles of wine (which Alice also brought me) and we got eggs carried in a cooler through the snow storm - nice friends hey?! And Bob brought Gene a 6-pack sampler of beer from Schell's Brewery in New Ulm.

The scones use flour, butter, eggs, salt, baking powder, sugar and whipping cream (I used heavy cream). Served with raspberry jam and apricot preserves. Great way to start the day!! Followed by a trip to the quilt shop in Santa Fe..what more could a girl want!! Well - And when we came home, we found out the guys had done all the dishes and pots and pans and cleaned up the kitchen! It was a grand day!!
